Finding us

We strongly recommend coming off at Junction 35 of the M6 as there are fewer narrow roads from Junction 34.

  1. Take junction 35 (Carnforth) on M6,
    From North – Take 1st Exit (signed A601M)
    From South – Take 3rd Exit (signed A601M)
  2. Proceed for approx. 0.3 mile to T junction & turn Left onto B6254 towards Over Kellet
  3. Proceed approx.0.75 mile to Over Kellet village green & turn Right
  4. Continue out of village for approx. 1 miles & take 3rd Left (Long Dales Lane) at white (rusty) railings to Halton (Opposite Hawthorns Caravan Park)
  5. Continue for approx. 0.8 miles taking the 2nd Left onto Scargill Road, also at white rusty railings (signed Halton)
  6. Continue for 0.5 miles and take first Left onto Laverick Road – also at white rusty railings (signed Halton/Caton) up the hill, past the bungalow & we are on the Left  (our house – Woods Barn – is opposite the site)

Things to Do – What’s Nearby

Halton (1 Mile – 20 minute walk):  This is our local village with a great Convenience Store (open 6.30am-10pm each day), Pharmacy / Post Office and a Fish & Chip Shop / Chinese. There is also a pub called The Greyhound as well as The Red Door Cafe.

Carnforth (3 miles):  A market town made famous for it’s Train Station, which appeared in the movie Brief Encounter. There are 3 Supermarkets – Tesco, Booths & Aldi as well as other shops including the fabulous Carnforth Bookshop. There are lots of places to eat such as cafes and takeways. We would recommend the Brief Encounter Cafe and The Royal Station Hotel.

Lancaster (5 miles): Our local and very historic City with plenty to see and do including a good shopping centre and the fantastic Lancaster Castle. There are also some very good museums such as The Lancaster Museum, The Judges Lodgings and the Maritime Museum.

The Ashton Memorial is a stunning domed follty, set in beautiful parkland with great views over the city. Free to visit.

There are lots of great places to eat too – Our favourite is Gallico Lounge

Morecambe (5 miles): – A seaside resort with breathtaking views across the bay to the Lake district fells. The Eden Project North is set to revolutionise the town when it arrives in the next few years.

Silverdale (8 miles): – A beautiful coastal village on the edge of Morecambe Bay. Part of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Arnside (12 miles): – Another coastal village with quite a few seafront shops and cafes. Great views over the Bay.

Kirkby Lonsdale (12 miles): Another quaint market town full of Independent shops, cafes and the famous Ruskin’s view.

Lake District (25 miles):  Full of scenic Lakes and majestic fells, pretty villages and towns. The Lake District is simply stunning!

Local Walks

The Loop (45 minutes 2.3 miles – Right on our doorstep):  A walk on the local roads which takes you down to the village of Halton and back. Turn right out of the Caravan Site, Left at the bottom of the road onto Scargill Road, Left down the hill on Arrow Lane, Left onto Kirkby Lonsdale Road, Left onto Laverick Road and up over the hill and down to the Caravan Site. Or for a more peaceful walk, you can turn back at Arrow Lane and walk back up as Kirkby Lonsdale Road can be fairly busy at times.

Crook of Lune (a 2 mile Drive away):  A local beauty spot next to the River Lune with lots of walking routes and places to picnic. There is a great Cycle / Walking path which runs to Lancaster and beyond or you can take one of the many riverside paths. There is also Woodies which is a snack bar (Check opening times).

Lancaster Canal (a 3.5 mile Drive away):  The Lancaster Canal runs through Lancaster to Bolton le Sands to Carnforth and beyond with good paths for walking or cyclying. There are many nice places to walk along it including the Lune Aqueduct walk

Warton Crag (a 5 mile Drive away):  A beautiful Woodland and cliff top walk with plenty of wildlife to see. Dominated by a Limsetone Rockface which you can see from here.

Eaves Wood & The Pepperpot (a 9 mile Drive): Eaves Wood covers a total of 50 hectares of woodland with many trails and walks. The Pepperpot is a stone monument at the top which overlooks Silverdale and Morecambe Bay.

Arnside Knott (a 12 mile Drive): Arnside Knott is covered with limestone grassland and mixed woodland. The Knott is a hill of 522 feet with outstanding views of the Lakeland Hills and Kent Estuary.
